Apr 21, 2016 · Summary. Overall we were very pleased with the lodging in Santorini and highly recommend a room on the cliff with a balcony to anyone traveling there. Yes, they can be expensive depending on your typical budget but it will be money well spent in our opinion.
Though Santorini was beautiful, it was a little bit overwhelming with so many tourists and selfie sticks everywhere. My favorite was walking around Santorini right at sunrise; Oia was practically empty! Folegandros was the most authentic experience mainly because most of the people we encountered were older locals and they spoke mainly Greek.
There is supposed to be good diving around Santorini I've heard. I've been to Santorini, and it is staggeringly beautiful, but it's a small island --and very steep--and outside of eating and drinking and looking around there isn't a whole lot to do. There's a quick boat trip to the adjacent volcano caldera..just not a lot to Santorini.

If you’re a white sand beach enthusiast then skip Santorini and go Paros. Just know that you’re skipping quite an experience. Santorini is the priciest Greek island but it can be done on a budget.
